Biography: It was a fortuitous day when I looked at the reunion pages of the most
recent Shift Colors and noticed that VP 28 was having a reunion this
month. Unfortunately, I will be traveling up to Washington State to
see my children and grandchildren at the same time the reunion is
taking place down in San Diego. If I had known about it earlier, I
certainly would have planned to attend.
You are to be commended for all the time and effort you are putting in
to keep track of squadron personnel. An amazing job by any measure for
sure!

My Bio in short is as follows:
After leaving the squadron in December, 1956 (following the Kodiak
deployment), I enrolled as a graduate student in City & Regional
Planning at the University of California (Berkeley) and received my
Masters (MCP) in June of 1959. While a student at Cal, I continued
flying in the Reserves (Weekend Warrior) with a squadron stationed at
NAS Alameda. Former VP 28 squadron member, John Tinley, was also
flying with us. While there, I made PPC and our squadron was fortunate
enough to be chosen to spend two weeks in the summer of 1959 flying
out of Pt. Lyautey, Morocco. We conducted fam flights throughout the
Mediterranean Sea, landing at Gibraltar, Naples, Rota, and the
Mallorcas as I recall. It was a great summer--even included a wave off
at Gibraltar on one occasion because of an elderly Spaniard stuck
crossing the runway in his cart due to a recalitrant donkey (it was the
main road connecting the Spain with Gibraltar. But I digress.
My wife, Ruth Ann, and I had 4 children (2 boys and 2 girls), born
successively in the Territory of Hawaii, California, Ohio and
Connecticut. I actually helped my wife deliver our second child at
home while a student at Cal (I thenceforth had bestowed upon me the
honorary title of Dr. by my professors and colleagues). All four
children are married, two of them have children (3 are boys, 1 is a
girl). Ruth Ann and I were divorced in 1976, but still remain good
friends and see each other when I visit 3 of the children in the
Pacific Northwest, where she also lives. I remarried in 1984 and live
with my present wife, Diana, in the San Francisco Bay Area

I am a retired veteran (20 years) having served on active duty for 5 yrs. and then spent the rest of my time in the Naval Reserve. I had to give up my designation as pilot when my first wife didn't want me away from home because of bringing up 4 children and not living near any naval aviation unit. Therefore no promotions.
UPDATED: address information 01/16/2022
My second wife, Diana, whom I met while working as a deputy planner for the County of Los Angeles, was my true love. She passed away on Thanksgiving day in 2019 after 35 wonderful years of traveling together all through Europe and the Middle East. I am 91 and living independently in my own apartment at Merrill Gardens in Lafayette, California. We located there after living in Venice, Italy and Ceret, France for a couple years before moving to the San Francisco Bay Area where we lived during my retirement. We have many friends in the area who despite the pandemic are still able to visit me. We are all vaccinated. And I am still able to walk without a cane or walker and can drive my own car which is parked in our underground garage. My children and grand children are all doing well and although they all live in the Pacific Northwest, we get together through FaceTime and Zoom meetings frequently. So few regrets!
