REUNION AGENDA

Wed, October 2 – Arrival Day – Most people will travel on Wednesday arriving in the afternoon and checking into the hospitality suite. No other formal activities are planned for Wednesday.

Thu-Sat, October 3-6

In 2012 we introduced a new transportation plan which consisted of renting 15 passenger vans driven by fellow VP-28 shipmates to serve as shuttle buses to and from events and downtown.  This plan worked well in Charleston and is being used again in Tucson. By subscribing to the “Transportation Fee” on the registration form, you will be provided transport to all scheduled events plus shuttle service to other events, such as dinner locations when available. For those who drive to the reunion and do not intend to use this service, this charge is optional. If you are NOT signed up for the “Transportation Fee”, you will provide your own transportation to either scheduled or unscheduled outings. If you are interested in volunteering as a driver, please indicate so on your registration form.

Scheduled Events:

Thursday, October 3

  • PIMA Air and Space Museum – A 3 in 1 tour.  PIMA consists of 5 hangars, 390th Memorial Museum and the Davis Monthan AFB “Boneyard”.  We have broken out the museum from the “Boneyard” for registration purposes for those who do not want to do both. A bus will be provided for our group which departs from the PIMA museum and returns there.  Lunch is available at the museum and is NOT included in the trip price. Total tour time is 4-5 hours, which includes both venues.  This trip is approximately 5 miles from the hotel.  Browse http://www.pimaair.org/  for more information.

 Friday, October 4

  • Arizona Sonora Desert Museum – Enjoy a walk through the desert and observe native plants and animals closeup. Entrance will be organized and paid for as a group so preregistration is important. This can be as much as a 4-5 hour tour. The museum grounds include almost 2 miles of paths on 21 acres and is primarily a walking experience. Wheelchairs are available free of charge on a first come first served basis. Electric scooter wheelchairs are available for $15. All exhibits can be reached by wheelchair. A restaurant is available onsite; lunch is NOT included in the price of this trip.  This trip is approximately 20 miles from the hotel. • Titan Missile Museum, Green Valley, AZ (approx 20 miles from hotel) 1 hour tour, participants need to be able to walk 55 steps down and back up plus walking around underground. Tour lasts about 1 hour. This missile site is supposed to be the only one in the US that still has a missile in place.  Site is intact as it operated during the cold war and should be very interesting.  Browse http://www.titanmissilemuseum.org/  for more information.
  • Squadron Business Meeting at 1600 at the hotel.
  • Annual Banquet at the hotel at 1800. Cost is $35/person.
