VP-28 Reunion - Charleston, SC - October 17-21, 2012 
 

Welcome to historic Charleston, South Carolina. The 2012 All Hands Reunion is to be held from Wednesday, October 17 until Sunday, October 21, 2012, and offers opportunities to relax with old friends and enjoy a truly beautiful and historic southern city. The focused activities this year are centered around the carrier USS Yorktown at the Patriot's Point Naval Museum and the H.L. Hunley Civil War Submarine Museum.  Plan your own "personal preference activities" which may include The Magnolia Plantation and Gardens, Charleston Harbor Tours, Ft. Sumter and Historic Downtown Charleston attractions.

HOTEL INFORMATION
The Radisson Charleston Airport Hotel in North Charleston has been chosen as the reunion hotel. A block of 30 rooms has been reserved for VP-28 Shipmates and their guests. Hotel accommodations are separate from the Reunion Registration and must be arranged directly with the Radisson by those attending.  The number 30 is fewer than we have reserved in the past, so register early so we can increase that number if we need to.

VP-28 Shuttle Van(s) - This year we are planning to rent our own 15-passenger van(s) driven by fellow VP-28 shipmates.  We'll use these vans for non-airport transportation.  You will note a “Transportation Fee” on the registration form for this service. If you are interested in volunteering as a driver, please indicate so on your registration form. For those who do not intend to use the service, this charge is optional.

2012 VP-28 REUNION AGENDA

Wednesday, Oct. 17
Arrival Day –
Most people will travel on Wednesday, arriving and checking in with VP-28 at the hospitality suite. Take time to relax and renew friendships in the suite as no other formal activities are planned for Wednesday.

 

Thursday, Oct. 18

 

  • H.L. Hunley Museum Guided Tour - (VP-28 Shuttle Van Departs Hotel @ 0900.)
    H. L. Hunley was a submarine of the Confederate States of America that played a small part in the   American Civil War, but a large role in the history of naval warfare.  The submarine was named for her inventor, Horace Lawson Hunley, shortly after it was taken into service under the control of the Confederate Army at Charleston.  A $15/person charge includes admission to the Museum and a guided tour.
  • Luncheon in Memorial Park @ 1130.
         Enjoy a leisurely lunch overlooking Charleston Bay. (Lunch not included in tour fee.)
  • Return to Hotel - (VP-28 Shuttle Van Departs Memorial Park @ 1330.)
  • Historic Downtown Charleston  
        - (First VP-28 Shuttle Van to Downtown Departs from Hotel @ 1600.)

Saturday, Oct. 20

  • Magnolia Plantation and Gardens - (VP-28 Shuttle Van Departs Hotel @ 0930.)
        One of the top 25 most visited historic houses in America, founded in 1676.
  • Return to Hotel - (VP-28 Shuttle Van Departs Magnolia Plantation @  1400.)
  • Squadron Business Meeting in Hospitality Suite @ 1700.
  • VP-28 Annual Banquet in the Radisson Hotel is at 1830.

Sunday, Oct. 21

Departure day for most.  Fair winds and following seas until we meet again. 

Note:  It is very important to register as early as possible to help us coordinate with the hotel.  We can get more rooms if we act early.

GOLF - A golf tournament is planned. Indicate your intention to golf on the registration form and pay on day of event.  Coordination will be finalized during the first day of the reunion.
